Inspiring the Next Generation of Ag Leaders
I had the privilege of joining AgForce Queensland and three outstanding agriculture professionals to share our career journeys with high school students at EKKA.
Although our paths were diverse, the messages we shared naturally aligned:
* Agriculture offers a wealth of career opportunities – whether you grew up on the land or in the city, there is a place for you.
* Ag opens doors. The people, networks and purpose you find in this industry will support you for years to come.
* There are powerful practical and educational pathways in agriculture.
Most importantly, a career in Ag means you can shape the future – food and fibre will always matter.
It was a joy to speak alongside:
Emily Litzow, Education and Training Manager at Australian Lot Feeders’ Association, who shared her journey from animal health and biosecurity to education and project management – bridging science and strategy.
Kieran Hamood, Supply Chain Officer at Hewitt Foods, whose inspiring career has taken him from stock camps in remote Australia to global logistics and supply chain management.
Will Atkinson, MSA Business Development Manager at MLA, who empowers producers to drive eating quality and better outcomes through data, grading and education.
I was honoured to share my own story – from growing up on a Merino wool farm in Western Victoria to building a career in marketing, communications and major events. I’ve been fortunate to work with some of the country’s leading Ag organisations, helping shape how our industry is seen, experienced and celebrated.
Today, I get to design and deliver feature events, national and global campaigns, brand strategies and more, that elevate Australian agriculture and connect producers with consumers.
While I’m also a modest beef producer, I reminded students that you don’t need to live on the land to make a meaningful contribution to ag.
One student did ask how I manage the cattle – thankfully, the incredible team at Northmark take care of that for us!
